New Alcohol Control Plan Regarding Minors

September 25, 2008 - Many of our guests have inquired about the revised Minor Control Plan that will go into effect at The Venetian on October 1st, 2008, when the entire lower floor of our restaurant will be restricted to those who are 21 and older. This includes the lobby as well as the theatre.

This change is meant to meet the demands of our 95% adult clientele. Previously, our Happy Hour and general bar offerings were severely limited by alcohol serving regulations necessitated by our all-ages arrangement. That plan simply wasn’t working. An overwhelming number of guests requested that the lounge and bar be expanded, not only in order to better enjoy our 21-and-over offerings but also to increase seating for those waiting for a table in our dining room. This new arrangement reinforces our vision of a superior full-service bar as central to The Venetian experience. Permitting children in this upscale lounge environment would not only be contrary to Oregon law but also highly inappropriate.

According to OLCC policy we must now bar minors from attending our daily film showings. However, by no means do we wish to completely exclude children from The Venetian. We will consistently offer weekend matinees suitable for all ages, and we encourage families with children to attend special events and live theatre shows at The Venetian. Last but certainly not least, our entire upstairs dining room will still be open to those who are under 21. This spacious dining area will allow families to continue to enjoy The Venetian’s offerings in an environment that is comfortable and appropriate for children.
